Why Collagen?

As I exit my late 20’s, I’ve definitely been experimenting with various skin care products, better eating habits and different forms of fitness to improve my skin and health. This year I’ve changed my meals to 70% paleo throughout the week and incorporated a 10 step skin care beauty daily regime. With all these working parts in motion, I knew I also had to step up precautions against bone damage, signs of aging, aching joints, hair & nail thinning, and all of that other lovely stuff.

For the last few weeks, I’ve been using collagen products from Vital Proteins. Now I’ve heard many things about collagen and benefits associated, but I had no idea it was something you could actually drink and/or include into your meals. I’ve never been one to add supplements into my routine, but I’m definitely warming up to the idea of it – especially since Vital Proteins’ products are non-GMO, all natural, and whole-food-based.
The two collagen-based products I’ve tried thus far are the Collagen Beauty Greens and the Collagen Peptides. Now, I know bloggers have a reputation for using this word, but I’m obsessed with both of these powders! Here’s why:
Collagen Beauty Greens-
Has a great coconut flavor, due to the addition of organic coconut water and Madagascar vanilla beans.
Gives you a beautiful glow that begins from the inside, out.
It’s natural elixir of marine collagen peptides, 5 raw organic greens (yay!), probiotics (a healthy dose of bacteria), and hyaluronic acid (for youthful skin) – all in one!
  Collagen Peptides-
A natural, flavorless powder comprised of just one ingredient- collagen peptides, sustainably sourced.
This anti-aging protein supports youthful skin, strong bones, reduces joint paint, and it promotes more restful sleep (thanks to the amino acid, Glycine). These peptides are soluble in cold liquids, as well as hot! I’ve been adding this into my waters, soups, and even sauces.
Why Collagen?
1. Prevents signs of aging by increasing skin moisture levels.
2. Reverses the sign of aging- not only does it prevent, it can actually reverse some signs such as fine lines, deep wrinkles and reduce elasticity.
3. Improves digestion in two ways: 1) Collagen supports hydrochloric acid production in our stomach, which aids in digestion. 2) Collagen helps to repair the lining and infrastructure of our stomach, and large/small intestines. Improving your digestion improves skin issues such as acne, eczema and rosacea.
4. Strengthens hair and nails!

Since I’m not a coffee person, in the morning I’ll drink a cup to feel refreshed and awake. I’ll even have a cup in the evening to curb those late-night cravings.
  Recipe:
1 Scoop of Collagen Beauty Greens
1 Cup of Coconut or Almond Milk
1 TBS of Maple Syrup or Honey
A pinch of Cinnamon
Ice
Mix in liquid, maple syrup, cinnamon, and protein till it all dissolves. Then serve over ice. That’s it!
I’ll be sharing with you guys a few more recipes, along with updates on my progress and results in the coming months. Hope you guys are encouraged and inspired to try new forms of supplements to improve your health inside and out!

In collaborations with Vital Proteins. Opinions are my own.
